Climate change impact , Tamilnadu Goverment efforts to tackle

 Climate change is a global phenomenon affecting humans and ecology around the world . It is the existential threat of 21st century.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his speech for CoP27 at Sharm el Sheikh,Egypt mentioned that 

" We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator "

This shows us the seriousness of the problem that we as humanity are facing from the twin  threats Global warming and human induced climate change.


In this regard , the national governments have taken NDC National determined goals to achieve the threshold of limiting global temperature rise by 1.5-2© by end of the 21st century


  • India Goverment has taken efforts such as NAPCC (National Action plan on Climate Change) - a comprehensive approach to tackle climate change involving 8 major themes .


  • Tamilnadu , an major state located in southern end of India has been pioneer when it comes to inclusive development. Now the state has also become a pioneer in recognising the challenge and undertaking measures to tackle the climate change.


  • The sub-national level approach are essential in not only achieving the national goals but also in ensuring awareness of climate change among people .


  • The state has become the First in India to adopt an exclusive state level Climate change mission  .


  • Under the able leadership of Tamilnadu Chief minister Thiru M K Stalin , Minsiter Thiru Meyyanathan and the vision of experienced bureaucrats like IAS Supriya sahu  , Additional chief secretary of environment department ,Thiru Deepak Bigili IFS, ,the state has also introduced eco friendly measures like "Meendum Manjapai - promotion of reusable cloth bag over plastic bags" , "Pasumai Tamizhagam - Afforestation program".

  • These measures ,if implemented with a participatory approach can surely  ensure a Sustainable Growth  in  Tamilnadu  


In the upcoming posts ,we will see how the Tamilnadu Government's environment related programs are helping in both "Adaptation and Mitigation" efforts to tackle the existential crisis of climate change.
